Achievements - The Roll of Honour Aiming to raise and encourage the profile of culinary expertise in Wales, the Welsh National Culinary Team provides training for the hospitality industry and promotes the quality, taste and versatility of the multi-million pound Welsh food and drink industry. It has paid an impressive dividend. The chefs form the most decorate national team representing Wales, amassing 220 medals, including 52 gold, 89 silver and 79 bronze from major competitions all over the world, including events such as the 1994 Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg, the 1996 Culinary Olympics in Berlin and the World Culinary Grand Prix in Glasgow in 1997. The pinnacle of the team's success to date was the Culinary World Cup in Kichberg, Luxembourg in November. Competing as a national team for the first time, the senior Welsh chefs won gold and silver medals and finished seventh from 24 teams, beating the likes of the USA and Italy. The prestigious five-day event also saw the debut of the Junior Welsh National Culinary Team, which was only formed in April, 2002. The young chefs exceeded all expectations by winning silver and bronze medals and finishing fifth from nine teams at their first attempt. With the evolution of the talented junior team, all bodes well for the future of culinary skills in Wales, where food standards are at an all time high.
