A period of significant progress was reported at the bi-general meeting of the Culinary Association of Wales when key lead roles were secured for the next two years.
Hosting of the WorldChefs’ European conference in Wales for the first time, a new structure for the Culinary Team Wales, closer links with the Welsh food and drink industry and a new three-year partnership with Grwp Llandrillo Menai, which sees the Welsh International Culinary Championships (WICC) and the Junior Culinary Team Wales remain based at the Rhos-on-Sea campus, were highlights.

Wales made such a success of hosting a major European chefs’ conference at the weekend that the nation is to consider bidding for a global event in the future.
The Culinary Association of Wales (CAW) hosted delegates from 20 countries at the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS) European conference at the Celtic Manor Resort on Sunday and Monday with support from the Welsh Government and Visit Wales.

Two Welsh chefs have gained global recognition by being invited to serve on World Association of Chefs Societies’ Committees.
Culinary Association of Wales (CAW) president Arwyn Watkins, who is managing director of Cambrian Training Company based in Welshpool, will serve on the Feed the Planet and Sustainability Committee for three years.

A team of Welsh chefs brought an authentic flavour of Wales to a St David’s Day reception hosted by Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street yesterday.
Six chefs from the Culinary Association of Wales (CAW) were invited to prepare savoury and sweet canapes for 210 VIP guests at the reception at 10, Downing Street organised by Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan.

Italy’s chefs have achieved what their country’s rugby team failed to do this month – beat Wales. The Italian national culinary team are leaving Wales as champion after victory in the annual Battle for the Dragon contest yesterday (Thursday).
Facing hosts Wales and fellow visitors Austria at the Welsh International Culinary Championships (WICC) at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhos-on-Sea, the Italians secured the Dragon Trophy after winning the vote from a panel of international judges.
